Howdy!

Welcome to our blog! How we all got here is a bit of a long story- but suffice it to say we found a common theme in most "military" movies (MilMovies from here on out) that just didn't jive with the lives we lead & experiences we've shared as members of the military community. So here we are- about to embark on our new project: Reality Check- The Real Military Guide to War Movies.

Who are we? We are all MilSpouses, but from time to time we may have contributors that are military Brats and active duty/reserve troops, perhaps even the occasional girlfriend or other family member. I am Tucker, I'm an Army Wife of just over a year, but I've been doing this military lifestyle for 3 years now. I'm a movie junkie and really looking forward to sinking my teeth into these movies!

Let me introduce you to our other bloggers:

-Hello, I am USMCWIFE8999, I'm a a Marine Corps wife of 16 years. I am also a military brat, aunt, cousin..well you get the picture. We have a long list of military in my family. I am also a movie junkie and look forward to weighing in on some of the great and not so great military movies.

-Hey! I'm TheAlbrechtSquad, proud Army wife of almost 14 years. I also served in the Army for over 10 years. I love the customs and protocol that come with Army life and so my patriotism and dedication runs pretty deep, causing me to be annoyed when I don't feel that Hollywood portrays the life I live accurately.

-Hello all! I am HellcatBetty, an Army National Guard Infantry wife of a year & a half. I haven't been in the military family for as long as some of the other ladies, but I have weathered a couple of long deployments with the hubs, and I'm learning more every day! As someone who wasn't raised with an awareness of military life, but is now in it up to my eyeballs, I hope to offer a unique perspective on the "Hollywoodinization" of military families.

Also, I don't doubt that many of our husband will be chiming in with their opinions when we watch the movies with them!

What is the aim of this blog? As our name suggests, we will review the MilMovies out there and take a look at how they depict troops, military life, veterans, and in particular everything that encompasses "home life" - aka: everything that isn't actual combat. Obviously as MilSpouses we aren't privy to the nitty gritty details of actual combat and physically being deployed to a war zone. But we sure as heck know our soldiers (Marines, sailors, et al) and we know about home life, enduring deployments, homecomings, PTSD, and all of the quirks that come with this military life of ours. We plan to take a critical look at how Hollywood portrays the Armed Forces, the troops, the wars and the families... you won't find any Top 10 lists or awards for special effects, but you will find thoughtful conversations about how right or wrong Hollywood gets it and the litany of issues that stem from the many stereotypes and misconceptions that result from blockbuster movies.

We hope you come back soon for our first movie review... we will be screening and discussing The Hurt Locker. Please feel free to screen it with us and give us your two cents in the comment section. Also, we'd be glad to field any request or ideas for movies to review... send us your ideas! Thanks and check back soon!

-Tucker
